Trend Talk: Ruffles

“When you look like you stepped out of a catalog, that’s never good. People shouldn’t succumb to trend, they should interpret trend.”

A few summer-like styles have sort of floated into fall and this includes polka dots and ruffles. I’m sure you’ve seen those polka dot wrap dresses all over social media recently and well, here’s another. For me personally I’ve always been a fan of ruffles, it dates back to the Victorian era which is always a classic favorite of mine. Though the only problem with ruffles is that they can be overdone very easily; and that’s what so tricky about styling them.

This is why I am such a big fan of these cute little wrap dresses because the ruffles are just perfect! The small ruffle detail really brings it together nicely because it lays across the chest without bringing too much attention to that area, or making you look puffy. It’s such a simple look to style too, you just have to put on some shoes and grab a bag and you’re out the door. Also I had to throw on my little hat to match the boater look with the shoes. When wearing a semi statement dress its best to keep the accessories fairly simple; which is why I went with my white watch to match the polka dots. Festival Lookbook 3/3: Comfortable Footwear

With school starting and festival season coming to an end; this last and final festival post will be helpful all year round for any event where you have to do a lot of walking. That’s right we are talking shoes today. Now we all know that shoes can either make or break an outfit and I don’t just mean aesthetically. If your feet are hurting and you’re in pain with every single step you take, you don’t care how cute your shoes look in that moment. You want to be comfortable. This is why I think that boots, like the ones I’m wearing here, are the perfect way to go. However I should note you should always opt for a low low heel if you can, as this will decrease pressure on your arch while still sticking with the funky festival theme. Velvet is also the perfect choice to go for boots considering how warm of a material it is. Meaning that if you are wearing for example, a dress or coat, the velvet will make you warm faster as it is not breathable. Still, it’s a good way to add some color to an otherwise all black outfit.

There is of course other good footwear alternatives. Tall flatform shoes have the benefit of being super high up like a tall heel, though still very comfortable due to the flat sole. My only issue with wearing these to a festival type setting is that you could roll your ankle quite easily, especially if you are not used to walking in them. Lace up sandals are also a good alternative to boots, though my only concern with this choice is that your open toes will most likely get stepped on at some point. This is why I personally opt for closed toed boots with either a 1 to 3 inch heel for comfort. All other outfit details will be listed below along with direct links to all items featured.

Festival Lookbook 2/3: Crochet Tops

When trying to dress comfortably and keep cool during the hot festival days, next to lace, crochet is your best bet. Crochet items have holes that allow air to flow thru which also adds texture to the garment, creating a pretty pattern. This is why they’re perfect for festivals as the bohemian designs are right on theme. A little crocheted top is one of my favorite pieces to wear because it is thick enough to hold its place while you are dancing and running around, but still breathable so you don’t get too hot. I went with all black in this outfit to keep it pretty simple and then added a pop of color with my bag.

Personally I feel the most comfortable in an all black outfit. I then like to add some color with my accessories as to not over-saturate the look. This little red suede bag is perfect for festivals because it is small enough to not get in the way but can still hold all your essentials. Also, when going to a festival you want to bring a fun bag but also one that you can hopefully style again after the festival season. This bag is a perfect one for every day or a night out as well. Festival Lookbook 1/3: Lace Dresses

Danielle Gold DavidTruuu 17 1 Festival Lookbook 1/3: Lace Dresses

At a festival you always want to look fashionable, but more importantly you want to be comfortable. There is a lot of walking/dancing so you’ll want to wear items that are made of a breathable fabric. This is why I love wearing lace dresses to these sort of events as they are the most breathable but always look chic. Lace dresses also never go out of stye so when you find a design you really love, they are usually timeless and can stay in your closet for many years. I went very matchy with this whole look though I should mention that the heel on these shoes are a bit taller than what I might choose to wear to a festival. The cowboy cut of these boots with the open sides paired perfectly with the dress; then I just threw on my black and white sunnies to match.

I also decided to elevate this look with a grey suede purse with this beautiful gold clasp closure detail from Hexa Bags. The grey suede bag with the gold hardware and chain adds a level of sophistication to the whole look. It also makes more of a statement by adding a third tone to the outfit as well. To elevate a look you should always focus on the the shoes, bag and sunnies first. So that’s exactly what I’ve done with this simple but still chic, festival look. In last years festival lookbook I styled lace dresses as well, you can check it out here. All outfit details will be listed below along with direct links to all items featured.

Trend Talk: Off The Shoulder (OTS)

franz a 20160826 0321 zpscfmp8yo9 Trend Talk: Off The Shoulder (OTS)

The OTS (off the shoulder) trend has been very popular recently as I’ve been seeing it everywhere already this summer. What I find so interesting is that this style has actually been a favorite of mine for years. The off the shoulder is a classic and feminine look but still comes off quite sophisticated despite the semi low neckline. The lace on this particular dress also adds a much more delicate and dainty feel. The only flaw with off the shoulder is that, when not cut properly, it can make it hard to lift your arms all the way above your head. So it’s good to keep this sort of thing in mind as it will affect your natural movement.

In fashion you will always see trends come and go; which is why developing your personal style is so important. That can only come with experience though which is why it might take awhile to find out what you don’t like and won’t wear, which is almost just as important as finding what you do like. Don’t be afraid to try new trends. Also, don’t feel like you have to run out and buy something just because all your faves are suddenly wearing it. Especially in a time when you will see the same repeat of outfits with the same exact items across countless social medias, it becomes boring and expected. Almost nothing is in style forever and almost everything ends up coming back around anyways, so just wear what you love! Other outfit details will be listed below along with direct links to all items featured.
