The Red Trend

The red trend is something I’m sure you’ve noticed during the past couple months. But did you know that because red is such a bold color it’s actually quite easy to style? I posted a few looks here showing various ways to pull off red, and really with the color that attracts this much attention it’s better to just go all out. I’m still actually on the lookout for the perfect red coat for this season. I’ll update you once I find it. If you did want to go for more of a subtle red look I would stick to accessories, like I did in this previous post here. While red is one of my favorite colors it’s definitely one where you need to make sure the item is really good quality, because if it’s made cheap…it will show.

When wearing red for the holidays it’s nice to go with a bit more of a classic festive red/burgundy tone. I think it just attracts a little less attention while still keeping the holiday spirit. I always opt for lace or velvet during the holidays and then add a faux fur or leather jacket to the outfit as outwear. This makes for a good balance of texture as well as incorporating warm and cool tones, while staying cozy in the hopefully cold weather. I say hopefully because it’s been so hot in California lately its been almost impossible to break out all my cozy winter coats. Though I will have more fall/winter outfits coming soon as well as my winter lookbook, so stay tuned for that!

Fashion Month Favorite Designers 2017

Now that fashion month has officially come to a close I will be reviewing my favorite designers from New York, London, Milan and Paris fashion week. Each location has a bit of a different feel to it, so I have chosen one label from each week that was my personal favorite. As always, picking only one designer is much easier said than done. I will include photos from the show/collection as well as a brief description about the brand and the new collection. Feel free to comment which were your favorites this year, as there are so many talented designers it’s so hard to choose just one for each week so I would love to hear your picks as well!

NYFW- My favorite designer every year in New York is Zimmermann. This brand is always impressing me with fresh takes on classic silhouettes while still maintaining that girly yet sophisticated feel. Their pieces have an elegance and simplicity yet also have a bit of an edge to them that is very hard to find. Something that many designers try and fail to do. Also one of the only brands that makes me want to wear more color (and white), and I think it really says something that they continue to be my favorite every year.

LFW- My favorite designer from London this year was Burberry. This collection was a little more street style inspired, a bit less polished and very effortlessly cool; I really liked it. The creative director of the brand had this to say about the new collection, “A little more honest, a little less polished. With their seamless high-tech construction and traditional plaid finishes, the brand’s highly coveted rain macs certainly combine the best high-performance know-how of the future with the picture-perfect dimensions of the past in a cool, streetwise way.” I think that sums it up just perfectly.

MFW- Milan never fails to impress, I think the worst part about it is choosing only one designer to feature. This is my favorite fashion week every year, just a tiny bit above Paris which comes in at a very close 2nd. The Versace show was my favorite this year not only because I loved everything but because they brought the supers back! The collection was just stunning but seeing Naomi Campbell up there again I knew this was my favorite moment of the whole entire season. I do have to note though that the Gucci show was also a favorite, which was actually my pick for Milan last year.

PFW- Chanel is another one that is always my favorite every year, even if I actively try to choose another brand instead..Chanel will always find a way to bring me back. Though I do have to note right away that I was not much of a fan of the hats in this collection. Though I quickly fell in love with everything else especially the boots and bags which were of course my favorites! But who can beat these simple/chic yet so futuristic black and white looks. To me it’s the perfect combo, a little weird..but I like it. Fashion has never been normal or boring. I do have to also note that the Dior show was just amazing this year, a very close 2nd choice for Paris. Dior is my 2nd choice every year so I thought it deserved a little mention as well.

Festival Lookbook 3/3: Comfortable Footwear

With school starting and festival season coming to an end; this last and final festival post will be helpful all year round for any event where you have to do a lot of walking. That’s right we are talking shoes today. Now we all know that shoes can either make or break an outfit and I don’t just mean aesthetically. If your feet are hurting and you’re in pain with every single step you take, you don’t care how cute your shoes look in that moment. You want to be comfortable. This is why I think that boots, like the ones I’m wearing here, are the perfect way to go. However I should note you should always opt for a low low heel if you can, as this will decrease pressure on your arch while still sticking with the funky festival theme. Velvet is also the perfect choice to go for boots considering how warm of a material it is. Meaning that if you are wearing for example, a dress or coat, the velvet will make you warm faster as it is not breathable. Still, it’s a good way to add some color to an otherwise all black outfit.

There is of course other good footwear alternatives. Tall flatform shoes have the benefit of being super high up like a tall heel, though still very comfortable due to the flat sole. My only issue with wearing these to a festival type setting is that you could roll your ankle quite easily, especially if you are not used to walking in them. Lace up sandals are also a good alternative to boots, though my only concern with this choice is that your open toes will most likely get stepped on at some point. This is why I personally opt for closed toed boots with either a 1 to 3 inch heel for comfort. All other outfit details will be listed below along with direct links to all items featured.

Festival Lookbook 2/3: Crochet Tops

When trying to dress comfortably and keep cool during the hot festival days, next to lace, crochet is your best bet. Crochet items have holes that allow air to flow thru which also adds texture to the garment, creating a pretty pattern. This is why they’re perfect for festivals as the bohemian designs are right on theme. A little crocheted top is one of my favorite pieces to wear because it is thick enough to hold its place while you are dancing and running around, but still breathable so you don’t get too hot. I went with all black in this outfit to keep it pretty simple and then added a pop of color with my bag.

Personally I feel the most comfortable in an all black outfit. I then like to add some color with my accessories as to not over-saturate the look. This little red suede bag is perfect for festivals because it is small enough to not get in the way but can still hold all your essentials. Also, when going to a festival you want to bring a fun bag but also one that you can hopefully style again after the festival season. This bag is a perfect one for every day or a night out as well. Styling: Velvet Winter Dresses In Spring

fix 1 1 zpshaq5r4et Styling: Velvet Winter Dresses In Spring

As you might’ve already guessed from my blog name; velvet dresses are one of my favorite items to wear! Not only are they super stylish and soft but they always add a level of sophistication and class to the outfit, no matter how you style it. Though the hard part for me about styling velvet dresses is that most of them are made for colder months..and living in Southern California we don’t get that much cold weather and our winters are quite short. But I still love to wear my velvet dresses especially on nights out when they actually do a good job of keeping you warm; unlike most other dresses.

The best way to go when styling velvet in warmer weather is to keep it very minimal on the legs, no tights no high socks, and either pairing with some low boots or open toed stilettos/sandals. Also a bell sleeve is a very comfortable option with long sleeve velvet items as it does not stick to your skin. The open keyhole on the chest also helps you to not get too overheated. Ultimately the best way to wear velvet is to keep it very simple on the legs and you probably don’t even need to bring a jacket, because your velvet is going to keep you very warm throughout the night. Other outfit details will be listed below and my festival lookbook is coming next month (in june) so keep an eye out for that! (Sorry for the slight delay on the festival lookbook! It was meant to go up end of this month but I’m busy moving right now! Update soon to come)
