Styling: Velvet in Summer

During the summer it’s almost impossible to wear velvet. In Southern California, where I live, we are blessed with a pretty mild winter and a lovely summer. But sometimes it can get a bit too hot, and definitely too hot to wear velvet. This look features this gorgeous little velvet halter from Total Recall Vintage. Her shop specializes in Vintage and 90‘s street-wear that she seeks out all over Miami, and many of her items are truly one of a kind. As soon as I saw this velvet halter I knew it matched my style perfectly! Even though I paired this look with my fur coat, this top can easily be worn by itself and paired with shorts or a skirt for a more summer style look. The velvet is super soft and surprisingly isn’t too thick (but thick enough that you can go without a bra), which makes it a great summer piece.

I fell in love with this beautiful deep burgundy color, but if your looking for more of a summer tone, this top comes in light pink and grey as well. I also opted for a more pink/nude lipstick, rather than a burgundy shade to match my top, as I thought it might be almost too matchy-matchy. I know that it’s very “in fashion” to match things exactly, but recently I’ve been trying to experiment with different tones. In this particular look, I think the light pink actually helps bring out the red undertones in my sunglasses lens.
